Helping to build our future

Since March 2015 the Compass service has been expanded with a £1.2 million Innovations Fund grant from the Department for Education. The funding has provided an amazing opportunity to develop the range of services we are able to offer and to reach many more children and families in need of emotional containment and personal development.

The Compass Outreach Service represents a fundamental shift in how we model and deliver integrated approaches to meet the needs of our population across mental health, social care, education and third sector.

We also recognise the vast assets, skills and knowledge of our local communities and in particular have established ways of using our families and foster carers in co-producing and delivering the service.

The capital investment made possible through DfE innovations funding will also create an innovative Family Development Unit (FDU) in Norfolk to provide comprehensive assessment and intensive intervention for families, as well as an Action Learning Model that will upskill the workforce in systemic practice through live supervision opportunities.

The validation, rigorous evaluation, learning opportunities and professional freedom afforded to us through our involvement in the Innovations programme has allowed the Compass to invest in the infrastructure necessary to improve Norfolk’s local offer and create a service model that is both sustainable and scalable.  As we approach the end of the Innovations grant period we are delighted that the future funding of the Compass service has been written into the executive budget for the next financial year placed before County Council Members for approval.
